Alfredo Villegas

Principal, Altus Academy

Since joining Altus Academy in 2017 as the 8th-grade teacher, Alfredo Villegas has devoted himself to guiding students toward excellence in learning, growth in virtue, and the development of moral character through faith and mentorship. In 2020, he became Principal of Altus Academy. Under his leadership, Altus continues to expand its academic and extracurricular programs, strengthen community partnerships, and enhance its facilities through strategic capital improvement projects that reflect the school’s mission and vision.

Before his career in education, Alfredo managed residential and commercial construction projects as a project manager for various construction companies, developing expertise in operations, budgeting, and team leadership. This experience has informed his effective oversight of school renovations and development initiatives, including securing funding from state and private sources to improve safety, accessibility, and learning environments.

A strong advocate for experiential learning, Alfredo has helped launch programs such as Altus Academy’s STEM and Workforce Development Initiative, which introduces middle school students to advanced manufacturing and cybersecurity concepts, and the Altus Talks Podcast, which gives students a platform to strengthen communication skills.

Outside of school, Alfredo serves on the Board of Directors for Chicago Community Sculling, supporting efforts to make rowing more accessible citywide. He is also actively involved in community outreach and mentorship, guiding young leaders to pursue education, service, and character growth.

Alfredo holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a specialization in Construction Management from the Illinois Institute of Technology. He lives in the neighborhood with his wife and two children, sharing the same community spirit and values that define Altus Academy.
