About Altus Academy
Altus Academy is a private, independent, nonprofit, elementary school that provides a tuition-free college preparatory education for families. We aim to serve students from historical minority groups, low-income households, first-generation college graduate households, and some of the most challenging neighborhoods and communities in the Chicago area.
Founded in 2013, Altus Academy provides an exceptional education that nurtures character, leadership, and academic excellence in students from underserved communities. Through a rigorous curriculum, individualized support, and enrichment opportunities—including our rowing program, hands-on STEM initiatives, and mentoring—Altus empowers students to achieve their full potential. We are committed to fostering a culture of integrity, service, and lifelong learning, equipping our students to become future leaders who will positively impact their communities.
Mision Statement
Altus Academy exists to transform the lives of our students, families, and communities through academic excellence, character formation, and consistent support. We provide a high-quality, college-preparatory education at no cost to students from low-income households in some of the most challenging neighborhoods on Chicago’s west side. Through high expectations, the intentional teaching of virtue and civility, we help students become learned, confident, compassionate, and morally grounded individuals prepared to thrive and contribute to society.
ALTUS ACADEMY VISION
To establish an education environment that promotes the integral human development of each student and member of our community; we will foster academic, moral, physical, intellectual, and spiritual excellence.
To provide an excellent education through a rigorous, comprehensive, liberal arts curriculum along with project-based academic programs. These, along with long-term supplemental support programs, will equip our students with the skills needed for success in college-preparatory high schools and, ultimately, in college, career, and life.
To inspire students with the vision of success based on the integration and practice of faith and human virtue into all aspects of Altus Academy, creating a culture of character that will strengthen our students to meet life’s challenges.
To provide intensive, consistent, long-term one-on-one mentoring of our students throughout middle school, high school, college, and beyond.
To empower parents as the primary guides and educators of their children and to strengthen families as the fundamental unit of society.
