Mayra is the Assistant Vice President of Enrollment Services and Director of Undergraduate Admission at Northern Illinois University with the responsibility of recruiting, admitting, and enrolling a diverse body of students. With over ten years of professional experience in strategic enrollment management, she is passionate about addressing issues in access to higher education and actively seeks to remove barriers for students from marginalized backgrounds and identities hoping to obtain a college degree.

Mayra earned her B.A. in Political Science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and her M.A.in Urban Higher Education from the University of Illinois Chicago. She is also a proud graduate of Chicago Public Schools and a first-generation, college-educated daughter of immigrants.

Maura Manning

Cyber & Strategic Risk Manager at Deloitte +

Maura works at Deloitte within their Cyber and Strategic Risk practice to assist clients in anticipating and managing their third-party exposures while optimizing the value of their extended ecosystem. Through her pro-bono work at Deloitte, Maura was introduced to Altus Academy and continued to stay involved after the project ended.

Maura received a B.S. in Management Information Systems and Business Analytics from Miami University. She is originally from New Jersey where she attended a private, Catholic high school and now lives in Chicago’s Old Town neighborhood.


George Haley

George works for McDonald’s Corporation at their headquarters in Chicago's West Loop neighborhood supporting the legal management of their U.S. real estate portfolio. Prior to McDonald’s, George worked for Kirkland & Ellis LLP supporting clients in multidistrict complex products liability litigation matters, and for Fragomen, Del Rey, Bernsen, & Loewy LLP supporting enterprise clients by maintaining the immigration status of their foreign national employees.

George began working with Altus Academy’s Founder and President, John Heybach, in 2009 at the Midtown Educational Foundation. In addition to his work at Altus, George serves on the Board of Directors of the Haley Family Foundation.

George received a B.A. in Philosophy from Loyola University Chicago and is a J.D. candidate at Loyola's School of Law.

George is a native of the Chicagoland area and lives in Chicago’s Wicker Park neighborhood with his wonderful pitbull rescue, Phillip.


Alexander Dumitriu

Alex is an in-house corporate attorney working for the North American headquarters of ThyssenKrupp, a German conglomerate. Prior to ThyssenKrupp, Alex was an attorney in the Chicago office of Howard & Howard, a full-service law firm based out of the Detroit area. Alex received a B.A. in Economics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a J.D. from Loyola University Chicago.

Alex is a strong believer that education is the key for creating successful opportunities in life and for becoming a well-rounded individual. Alex is fluent in Romanian and is a first-generation American and college graduate. As such, Alex appreciates the complexities of navigating the educational system and preparing oneself for a successful career. He looks forward to mentoring and guiding students as they prepare for high school, college, and eventually, the start of their careers.

Alex lives in Old Town with his wife Jessica and their two dogs, Nicky and Cly.
