dr. Lisa c. freeman

Lisa C. Freeman was appointed president NIU in September 2018. Prior to joining NIU, Freeman spent 16 years as a faculty member at Kansas State University (K-State), where she served as a principal investigator on research and training grants; taught courses in pharmacology and the responsible conduct of research; and acted as a mentor to numerous graduate students, postdoctoral trainees and early-career faculty members. In 2005, Freeman became the associate dean for research and graduate programs for the K-State College of Veterinary Medicine, and in 2008 she became the associate vice president for innovation for K-State Olathe.

Freeman earned a bachelor's degree in 1981, then a master's degree and a doctor of veterinary medicine in 1986, from Cornell University. She went on to earn a doctor of philosophy at The Ohio State University in 1989, and subsequently worked as a postdoctoral fellow and research scientist at the University of Rochester School of Medicine. In 2004-05, Freeman was a Fellow of the American Council on Education hosted by the University at Buffalo.

Al kagan

Al Kagan is a principal with Deloitte Consulting LLP. During his nearly 25-year consulting career, Al has led his clients through significant business and technology transformation projects resulting in enhanced customer service capabilities and operational efficiencies to enable business growth. Al’s current roles at Deloitte are as Lead Client Service Partner for the State of Indiana and Lead Consulting Partner for the State of Illinois, where he focuses on helping these states provide improved and streamlined access to services to their residents.

ross arena

Ross Arena is the department head and professor of physical therapy at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Arena researches cardiopulmonary physical therapy and exercise science. As lead author on a 2015 American Heart Association policy statement, he advocates change in the prevention and treatment of noncommunicable disease, urging  stakeholders to collaborate in non-hierarchical ways to reduce lifestyle-based diseases.

Arena is a fellow of the American Heart Association, the American College of Sports Medicine, the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation, and the European Society of Cardiology.  He is an adjunct professor at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine and has employment relationships at the University of Milano School of Medicine, University of Brasilia, Cardiac Wellness Institute of Calgary and Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

Arena earned his master’s degree in physical therapy and Ph.D. in physiology/physical therapy from the Medical College of Virginia/Virginia Commonwealth University.

Hank underwood

Hank is the managing partner of the Chicago office of Howard & Howard. He has been selected as a 2011 Leading Lawyer and for several years has been selected as a Chicago Super Lawyer. Since the 1970's, Hank has represented many Chicago area businesses with worldwide foot prints. Those businesses operate primarily in manufacturing, distribution, and financial markets. Hank has handled numerous merger and acquisition transactions and, for many years, represented a lender providing loans to equipment leasing companies for acquisition of equipment leased to Fortune 500 companies. Since 1990, Hank has served as corporate counsel to SigmaTron International, Inc., an electronic manufacturing services provider that has grown from a one-plant operation in Elk Grove Village, Illinois, to a publicly traded company with facilities in the U.S., Mexico, China, Vietnam, and Taiwan.

Throughout his diverse corporate legal career, Hank has also represented companies in the sale and acquisition of complete businesses and business units, as well as the establishment and operation of joint venture entities. He has made it a priority to earn the trust and confidence of high-level executive officers and often represents them and the trusts created for their families.

Heron E Rodriguez, MD

Dr. Heron Rodriguez is a vascular surgeon in Chicago, Illinois and is affiliated with multiple hospitals in the area. He has been in practice for more than 20 years.

Dr. Rodriguez is an award-winning teacher and researcher, an international speaker, and a published author. He serves as co-director of the program for limb preservation at the Northwestern Vein Clinic and he oversees the training of young vascular surgeons as associated program director of vascular surgery. His clinical activates focus on arterial and venous surgery and percutaneous interventions.

MICHELENE BAJAKIAN, JD
